Software Localization Toolkit for Windows C/C++ Application Development

Use Venona with Visual C++, Borland C++, or any other Windows C/C++ compiler (16 or 32-bit).  Venona reads and writes the application RC file directly.  Venona® runs on 32-bit version or Windows 9x/NT.

Venona reads resources directly from the application RC files.  Venona strips out hot key ampersands, ellipses, and menu accelerator key sequences, saving the information to add back in later.  Your translator sees only the clean native language text.  You don't have to worry about the translator accidentally deleting an ellipsis, or creating hot keys.

Venona writes your translation directly to RC files to be rebuilt into your project.  This is the best way because it allows you to resize your dialogs to accommodate the changed text.  You can also make any adjustments to the hot keys, ellipses, accelerators, version information, or any other resource item.

Resource items translated by Venona include menus, dialog boxes (including combo box initialization), and string resources.

You can include an unlimited number or additional text files into your Venona project and optimize its translation using the extensive Find and Replace functionality in Venona, and the automatic translation from a glossary.

When Venona creates your new translated RC file, Venona automatically generates hot keys for the menus and dialog controls.  Not only is each hot key is guaranteed to be unique, but hot keys will not be generated for special characters such as those with accents or umlauts.

Most software applications are very redundant in their use of text.  So Venona optimizes your translations with extensive search and replace.   Each time you change a menu item, dialog item, or string resource, you can implement the change throughout the program to all items with the matching native text.

Many applications display a "Tip-of-the-Day" at program startup.  These tips are stored in text files with each tip on a single line.   Venona allows you to import these tips into a project for translation.  You can then easily create a new tip file of some or all of the translated tips.

When Venona imports a resource file, it strips off the menu accelerators so that your translator only has to worry about the clean text.  You can easily translate the accelerator separately and automatically within Venona.  When Venona creates your new translated RC file, the translated accelerator will be inserted into the correct position with the translated menu item.

How much time did your translator spend on the project?   Venona keeps track of work sessions for each project.  Easily view their start time and duration of each work period, and the total time for the project.

If you have a translation of a previous version, all of your previous work is not wasted with Venona.  You can apply the previous translation to newer versions of the same application.

Venona includes a special utility to validate the use of resource strings in your application.  You can test to make sure all reference resource string identifiers exist in the resource file.  More importantly, it will check to make sure all strings used in the program are loaded from resources.  This will prevent your application from errantly displaying native language text.

Translating an application from English will increase the amount of text displayed in dialogs by 30-50% or even more.   Pig Latin is sometimes used to make sure that dialogs are sized sufficiently to accommodate the translated text.  With Venona, generating pig Latin resources is as simple as a single menu command.

Venona generate native language and translated word counts for a project.  Also available are project completion statistics displaying the number and percent of resource items translated.

Venona allows the translator to preview dialogs in either the native text, or translated text.  This allows your translated to see the context of dialog text, and produce a more suitable translation.  Your translator can also see how the translated text will fit within the dimensions of the dialogs.
